Video killed the radio star, but this time its happening

Moderator: Peter Åstedt

Panelists:

Description:

in 1979 The Buggles released “Video Killed the Radio Star”, and like Matt Groneing they predicted the future (kind of) with the launch of MTV changing the landscape of music videos. But video content as a whole has overtaken music consumption. Many territories stream music video content more than streaming or purchasing audio and we only need to look at all the social platforms to see how video content is pushed further to promote releases. Let’s explore the numbers, with our esteemed panel and look at trends that might paint a picture that we didn’t expect.

Creating the Code

Moderator:

Panellists:

Description:

Being a musical artist is more than just the music, it’s about weaving together your narrative, establishing your brand, finding your voice and strategically showcasing it to the world. Some argue that this is because we’re now in the realm of social media, but if we really think about it, it’s always been there. Look at Elvis, Joni Mitchell, Wu-tang, Metallica, Lizzo… Tay Tay!

Our panellists explore artists building authentic brands rooted in their stories, translating their unique narrative into a marketable brand and how they use this to promote their music globally through press, radio and social media.

Moderator: Tamara Gal-On

Panelists:

Description:

Where are the women in leadership in the music industry? Women dominated the Grammys this year yet women off stage in the music industry still find themselves struggling to find visible role models in leadership in numerous areas of the industry. In this panel, Future Echoes in collaboration with Music Leaders Network, addresses a key issue in leadership in the music industry – how do we create more visible role models in leading positions across the entire industry? The panel will discuss gaps in training, the “sink or swim” approach to promotion in music, and how a lack of role models can lead to the imposter phenomenon. They will explore what can be done to increase women’s visibility and create leadership opportunities for women, the importance of a strong and supportive network, and how dedicated training programs can create the role models necessary for women in music.

Insert Coin to Start

Moderator: Corinne Eady

Panellists:

Description:

In previous years we’ve often spoken about how publishing is able to “earn you money whilst you sleep”. However whilst you’re sleeping there might be an individual or team of people who are very much awake and earning you money by exploiting your work. Don’t be afraid of the word exploiting, in this instance it’s a good thing.. or even a great thing. There are multiple avenues of getting your work licensed into different mediums, let’s hear from the experts on what these mediums are. Most we know of but there are some that will surprise you. We’ll also explore who the key people are within the chain and how licensees can get access to your music.

SATURDAY 23 OF MARCH

Hitchikers guide to Music Tourism

Moderator: Peter Åstedt

Panelists:

Description:

When we think of music within showcasing, we usually concentrate on how an artist can benefit from an international fanbase. We should also really look at music’s impact on the economy and in this case, look closer to tourism. Future Echoes helps boost business for Hotels, Restaurants, Bars, and of course Venues. There are loads of showcase festivals around the world that do the same for the cities they take place in. But is this a sustainable business for the conference and showcase organisers? We’ve started to see our favorite showcases (not naming any names), move slightly away from showcasing emerging talent in favor of established artists to sell tickets. Is there a different way we can showcase artists that is a little more tailored whilst still supporting the tourism sector?

11:30 – 12:20  Cnema

Parental Controls

Moderator: Remi Harris

Panelists:

Description:

All are welcome and encouraged to attend this panel exploring what it means to be a parent who works in music. You may be a parent or you may not, but please come and join our conversation. The stereotype is that being a parent limits career progression and at worst leads to people departing the music industry. Both are certainly demanding; being a parent, and working in music both require creativity, resources, flexibility, innovation, resilience, and support. Let’s hear from our panelists on how they have navigated obstacles and opportunities in their professional and personal lives as a parent in music. This panel is both a forum to hear from parents and for all of us to take part in and learn as we look to create a music industry that supports the contribution and participation of people who are parents.

The Architect & The Oracle

Moderator: Peter Åstedt

Panelists:

Description:

Peter Åstedt returns to chair his annual panel on future insights of the music industry. The elephant in the room this past year has been AI. Artificial intelligence stole the show at CES 2024, with every consumer product on show having some AI element. It almost felt like every other industry article was about an AI company being created, folding or being involved in a lawsuit. But we shouldn’t let that steal the spotlight. Audience behavior, content consumption and market demands are always changing. We’ve also seen huge resurgence in reunion tours whilst at the same time there being a lack of space for developing acts. Where will we get our next headliners? Peter discusses industry predictions based on current activity with some of the industries most forward-thinking individuals.
